How we assess rents for social housing tenants
The amount of rent you pay is based on a percentage of your income.
If you are eligible for a subsidised rent, your rent will generally be calculated at 25-30% of your total household income plus 100% of your Commonwealth Rent Assistance.
For example:
Your Income | Rent charge from Income | Commonwealth Rent Assistance | Total Rent payable to Link Wentworth |
You receive an Aged Pension of $510 per week | 25% x $510 = $127.50 | 100% x $92 = $92 | $219.50 |
Why rent increases
Link Wentworth conducts rent reviews every six months. The purpose of this is to make sure you are paying the right amount of rent and to update any changes to your household income.
Your rent will increase if there has been an increase in your income.
For example, for our tenants who receive Centrelink Support Payments, Link Wentworth will increase your rent when your Centrelink Support Payments increase.
