After heavy rain or flooding, you may find mould in your home. Mould can make you sick, particularly if you have asthma or other respiratory conditions. Link Wentworth can help you to tackle and treat mould – don’t wait to contact us, if it occurs. Below are some helpful tips you can try, to prevent and treat mould.
Preventing mould:
1. Report any leaks, so that we can repair them
2. Ventilate your home – open windows when safe to do so and use exhaust fans when showering, cooking, or doing laundry
3. Reduce humidity – avoid drying clothes in front of a heater. This increases air moisture and is also a fire hazard. If using a clothes dryer, ensure the house is well ventilated
4. watch out for moisture or dampness and regularly wipe surfaces that get damp
Treating mould:
If you do discover mould in your home, you can let us know. Part of our responsibility to tenants is to help manage home maintenance issues including mould.
You can also treat mould as soon as it appears. Use either a mild detergent, vinegar diluted in water (4 parts vinegar to a 1 part water) or 1 teaspoon of tea tree oil per cup of water. If the mould is hard to remove, use a diluted bleach solution (250mL of bleach in 4L of water). Always refer to the safety instructions, ventilate the area and protect your skin, eyes, and clothes.
