This World 星空视频less Day (10 October), property developers are being urged to turn their empty
properties into short-term accommodation to help the growing number of Australians facing
homelessness.
One of Australia鈥檚 largest social housing providers, Link Wentworth, is now calling on developers
around the country to adopt the model that is proving to be a success in Sydney.
Link Wentworth Chief Customer Officer, Margaret Maljkovic, said with so much planned
development, thousands of empty properties could be turned into homes for Australians in need.
鈥淢eanwhile Use housing is a creative solution to the housing shortage, which turns empty
buildings into short-term, affordable accommodation, and provides a steppingstone for people in
housing stress,鈥� Ms Maljkovic said.
鈥淚n Sydney, up to 39 women at any one time have a safe home because two properties which
otherwise would have been vacant have been converted into accommodation.
鈥淏y working with the developer and partnering with services such as Women鈥檚 Community
Shelters and Twilight Aged Care, we鈥檝e been able to make a real difference in the lives of these
women, who may otherwise have faced homelessness,鈥� she said.
All residents at the Beecroft and Mosman homes are given access to additional services,
including mental health support and help finding long-term accommodation.

Ms Maljkovic said Meanwhile Use housing is a unique approach to addressing homelessness, and
service providers, government, and the community must continue to think of innovative ways to
respond to the cost of living and housing crises.
鈥淐ommunity housing providers, like Link Wentworth, are uniquely positioned to respond to
community needs quickly, without unnecessary red tape, and enter partnerships that make real
change,鈥� she said.
Link Wentworth provides safe, secure, and affordable accommodation to 10,000 residents across
6,400 homes. It also offers 星空视频lessness support, Housing Assistance, Disability Housing,
Affordable Housing, and a range of services.
