As the housing and cost of living crises continue, 80 former and current residents, staff, volunteers, partners, and support workers will gather to celebrate Link Wentworth’s 40 years of providing social and affordable housing across Sydney, including in Northern Sydney.
Not-for-profit Link Wentworth manages around 6,400 homes across Sydney, including nearly 500 across Northern Sydney. The properties include social, affordable and transitional housing; and an office in Chatswood to serve local residents.
Link Wentworth Chief Customer Officer, Margaret Maljkovic, said the organisation, with its proud and long history of working with councils and local services, had undertaken key developments across Northern Sydney to provide more homes to those in need.
“Social and affordable housing is more important than ever as the cost of living and housing crises continue to pressure individuals and families,” Ms Maljkovic said.
“Construction is currently underway on a more than $8 million project which will deliver 12 studio units in Cammeray for residents facing housing stress and homelessness. The development more than doubles the capacity of the previous on-site property and is close to amenities and public transport. Construction is set to be complete by 2025.”
It follows an earlier project which saw Link Wentworth awarded Most Sustainable Social Enterprise.
“Link Wentworth oversaw the development of ‘April Place’, a seven studio, modern boarding house for seniors in Wollstonecraft. The project’s focus on sustainable design helped Link Wentworth to win Most Sustainable Social Enterprise at the 2017 Better Business Awards, a joint initiative between North Sydney, Willoughby, and Ku-ring-gai councils,” Ms Maljkovic said.
“Link Wentworth is committed to working with local, state, and federal governments, and the private sector, to make sure we secure funding for new and much-needed housing in and around Sydney’s North Shore. Now is the time to build upon our history, and work with partners to do more.”
As a community housing provider, Link Wentworth also delivers innovative housing services such as the meanwhile use property in Mosman for older women experiencing homelessness. They also run a Digital Literacy program for older people in North Sydney, recently facilitated Tai Chi classes for residents, and hosts an End-of-Year Party giving residents the opportunity to celebrate the festive season.
